Extraterritorial (adj): existing or taking place outside the territorial limits of a jurisdiction.

I debated using extraterrestrial as the word today but feel we have done a pretty good job setting up the foundation for developing species from other worlds.  By taking a look at the word extraterritorial we see an opportunity to start developing the social, political and ethical infrastructures for these species.

Just imagine the magnitude of shock when a civilization realizes for the first time they are not alone.  And not just another civilization.  Hundreds of them.

Suddenly, human beings are thrust into an almost primitive mindset, where they need to learn, understand and teach entirely new systems of new societies they encounter.  A successful science fiction author understands this takes time.

Taking that time will set the table for a myriad of plot opportunities.  And who would say no to almost limitless plot opportunities?
